April 2001 NewsletterBible Windows 6.0Bible Windows 6.0 has a new installation program that is simpler and easier to use and it is fully compatible with Windows ME. We have had a small number of significant problems installing old versions onto Windows ME machines. We recommend that you upgrade if you want to install either Bible Windows or the Workplace Pack on Windows ME. ANLEXBible Windows has the first electronically available edition of the Analytical Lexicon of the Greek New Testament by Friberg, Friberg, and Miller. This is a new 400+ page lexicon. The general lexicon support has been greatly improved so that you can switch between ANLEX, Louw-Nida, UBS Dictionary, Liddell-Scott and Perseus with a single click. This feature will save you a significant amount of time. Revised Analytical Greek New TestamentThe AGNT has been revised again. Most of the revision was a simplification of the tagging scheme and fully updating the text to the latest UBS 4th edition. Revised SeptuagintThe Septuagint (LXX) has undergone major revisions. These revisions include the elimination of the separate prepositional prefixes and a harmonization of the LXX lemmas with AGNT. The tagging scheme has also been revised so that it conforms to the AGNT. This revision will allow you to do a single search through both the AGNT and LXX from either the LXX or AGNT. This is a major new feature that has often been requested. Revised Hebrew BibleThe analysis of the Hebrew Bible (BHS) has undergone major revisions. The tagging has been corrected and revised and homographs have been identified. For example, the form )RB (bara`) has three homographs. Now, you can search each homograph separately, or you can search for all three like before. BDB RevisionThe Brown, Driver, Briggs Lexicon has also been revised. Switching between the two Hebrew lexicons is a single click. Perseus Latin SupportPerseus has added a Latin morphological analysis tool. Both Bible Windows for the Vulgate, and the PHI5 Workplace have added support for this parser. You simply click on a Latin word and you can instantly jump to the Perseus web site to get the parsing and a definition of that word. Unicode Type Assistant 2.0Both Bible Windows and the Workplace programs include the new Unicode Type Assistant 2.0 (UTA). This is a stand alone program that can type an unlimited amount of text. Text can be copied into UTA in either Unicode or Sgreek format. The resulting text can then be copied back to a word processor in either Unicode or Sgreek format. Not only does this allow you to easily type Unicode Greek, but you can use it as a two-way conversion tool between Unicode and Sgreek/SGkClassic. This is a very handy utility if you plan on doing any Unicode work. Workplace Pack 9.0The most significant improvement of the Workplace programs is the addition of the Extended AND Syntax for searches. Sometimes you will want to search for a sequence of words that can have many different forms. For these cases, we have the Extended AND Syntax. For example, suppose you want to search for three words, XXX, YYY, ZZZ. XXX can be inflected as XXX1 or XXX2 or XXX3, YYY can be inflected as YYY1, YYY2 or YYY3. ZZZ can be inflected as ZZZ1 or ZZZ2. To search for "XXX AND YYY AND ZZZ", you enter: [XXX1 | XXX2 | XXX3] [YYY1
| YYY2 | YYY3] [ZZZ1 | ZZZ2] This will be very helpful for many searches. The improved Liddell-Scott Lexicon is now a standard feature of the Workplace Pack as is the Perseus Latin Support and the Unicode Type Assistant. Perseus Latin SupportPerseus has added a Latin morphological analysis tool. The PHI5 Workplace has added support for this parser. You simply click on a Latin word and you can instantly jump to the Perseus web site to get the parsing and a definition of that word. |
