All of Silver Mountain Software's products support Unicode.

Unicode

The Unicode Worldwide Character Standard is a character coding system designed to support the interchange, processing, and display of the written texts of the diverse languages of the modern world.

Currently, every Bible Software uses their own, unique encoding for Greek. This means that you can only use that vendors fonts. With Bible Windows, you can switch to any Unicode 2 compliant font from any font vendor. Unicode frees you from any single font vendor and you know that your text will be readable any time in the future.

Character Codes

Most of the fonts today use an 8-bit character set. That is, they have at most 255 characters. Since there are so few characters, it takes more than one font to have both English and Greek in the same document. Unicode is a 16 bit character set. This allows a Unicode font to have up to about 64 thousand characters. This allows a single Unicode font to support many languages at the same time. The down side is that typing Unicode can be tedious because there are so many characters.

Typing Unicode Greek

Silver Mountain Software provides a special add-on to Microsoft Word that allows you to easily and simply type Unicode Greek. This utility will also convert your old Sgreek text into Unicode.
